BARBOUR EXCURSION.
While the Takapuua Races and Regatta absorbed tho greater bulk of the pleasureseekers numbers availed themselves of the opportunity afforded of taking a blow on the harbour or visiting the various popular holiday resorts, to which the steamers of the Northern Company, the Devonport Ferry Company's fleet, and smaller packets plied during the day. Lake Takapuna, St. Heliers Bay, and Pine Island were, perhaps, most largely patronised, while the excursions round the harbour and islands in the Gulf, aud the trips to Waiwera, Mahurangi Heads, Waiheke, and Riverhead, presented attractions to many, 'l'lia majority of the excursionists had returned to town before eight p.m., and fortunately the day proved free from accident or mishap in this direction.
LOYAL ORANGE PICNIC. The annual picnic and sports of the Loyal Orange Institution was held at St. Heliers Bay, members and friends being conveyed thither by Messrs, Pullan aud Armitage's vehicles. Not a single hitch occurred in the whole proceedings, aud the management have every reason to congratulate themselves on the success which attended the undertaking. Great credit is due to Brother J. On reaching the island, the picnickers broke up into groups, and amused themselves in various ways, the children being well looked after in the matter of games and i sports. A return to town was made about six p.m.
