Our W'hakapiran correspondent writes :— On the 10th December Dr. Fisher, one of the oldest identities in these parts, passed quietly away, at'tho very advanced aye of 91 years and 6 months, and was interred.in the Matakohe cemetery on the 12th instant. Dr. fisher was one af the original Albertland settlers, arriving in Auckland by the barque AmershatA, in the year' 1864, with his family. In the same year he took up land in the Matakohe sottlement. For some years he resided, and had an extensive practice in Rerauera, subsequently coming up to Matakoho, and living on hie solection, where he continued the practice of his profession for some time, eventually coming to Pahi where he has resided up to the lasb. Being the only medical man in the Kaiparaat that time, he supplied the requirements of one of the largest districts in New Zealand, up to within fifteen years ago, when he retired from active service, his place being taken by Dr. Mountaine,of Maungaturoto. The deceased gentleman leaves a family of two sons and two daughters to mourn their low, and also that of Mrs. Fisher, who pre-deceasedher husband by about two months. Aβ a proof of the respect in which tho late doctor was held, it may be mentioned that the funeral was one of the largest ever known ia the district Mr, W. 11, Jaokman, J.P., conducted the burial servico of the Church of England in a most impressive manner. The funeral arrangements were carried out under the supervision of Mr. Arthur Fori nater, of this place.
