AUCKLAND YACHT CLUB.

A qekeral meeting of the members of the Auckland Yacht Club was held in the Harbour Board offices last night, Tho commodore (Mr. Thomas Henderson) presidium There was a vory full attendance, and considerable interest was taken in the proceedings. It was decided to commence the season's club races on January 22 with a moo for Class D (30-fnoters), the first prize beitiß £5 and second £2, the entrance fee being fixed at 10i: and a moo for Class C (36-fontere), the prizes being the same as for Class 1). On February 5, the I'aoe for the cup presented by Mr. J. L R. Bloomfield (ex-coinmodore) will take place between the 30-footcrs; added to the cup is a prize of £210 a; the second boat taking £2. A general handicap race for all classes will take place on February 26, the prizes being: First, £5; second, £3; third, £2; the entrance fee being ss. The conditions and courses for the various races were fixed the same as last season. It having been reported that a number of the club records were destroyed in the late wharf fire, it was relegated to the committee to make every endeavour to get all the records possible. After considerable discussion it was decided not to hold the annual picnic this season, most of the members appearing to have iu view the early possibility of a club-rnom started, Mr. A, Buchanan moved; "That a new class be introduced between the SO footers and tho 24 footers, such new class to be called the 27-foot linear rating (special) class," Mr. Buchanan, in speaking to tne motion, contended that instead of yachts rating as at present in this class the full girth instead of three-quarters. This, iu the mover's mind, would tend to encourage the building of a semi-racer cruiser. Messrs. J. L. K, Bloomfield, J. Wiseman, T. Kilfoyle, G. V. Edgoumbe, and D. Carter having spoken on the various points of the subject, the motion was oarried by seven to eix. Mr. Buchauan then moved: '"That in order to further encourage a cruising type of boat in this class the whole girth be measured instead of 75 g, and the divisor be altered accordingly ; that is to say, that in this class tho rule for ratine; be— L + B + Q. T-SV.S. 2.1. Considerable discussion ensued, and it was finally decided to relegate the matter to tho general committee for further information, Messrs. J. Eraser, Q. O'Halloran, W. A. Harvey, A. Robins, aid IT. Hemus were elected new members of the club.
