At the Patent Office, Wellington, complete specifications in relation to the following applications for patents had been accepted A. Alexander, of Normandy ;An improved combined ploughing and harrowing implement, J. L, and J. Zajonskowski, of Marton : An improved wool press. M. McDonald, of Victoria: An improvement in handbooks and equivalent trace connections. Brisbane, of ArarimuSouth: Arm attachment to beam of plough, to carry one or more rotary skeiths for cutting ground on land side of plough. T. Ayson, of Otago: An improved force-feed for drills and the like. D. J. Heenan, of. Dunedin: An improved tool for boring holes in the ground to receive posts and the like. Provisional specifications for tho following had been accepted:—J. H. Coxen, of Afrioa: An improved apparatus for washing textile fabrics, wool, and the like. J. 0. Cor bet t, of Hawera: An improved method for making flax or phormium tenax rugs, coseya, etc., from dressed flax or fibre. .6. L. Thomson, of Otahuhu: Improvements in and connected with the construction and fitting of roofs or coverings for stacks of grain and other farm produce with galvanised, corrugated, or other sheet metal. P. Smith, of Wellington : An improved saddle-cloth. E. H. Brown, of Ghristchurch: Improved pneumatic harness saddle. G. J, A. Leslie and W. D. Kenealy, both of Auckland: An improved potato peeler. The Mayor of Ghristchurch, in referring to the rider of the jury in connection with the recent fatal bicycle accident, animadverted on the amount of "scorching"' which was done through the city, and the frequenoy of accidents through cyclists preferring footpaths ,to roads. He instanced one accident, and said ho was led to believe that twenty miles an hour in town was the pace of very many riders. This, of course, was contrary to the by-law, which limited the speed to eight miles. One councillor reported three cases of accident, the lust of which occurred to , himself, who was knocked senseless, and lie : considered he was qualified to speak feelingly. Other councillors expressed their opinion that effective means should be used to prevent) the repeated contravention of the by-law, and it was decided to communicate with Inspector Broham on the subject.
