THE SHEEP RETURNS.

[BY TELEGRAPH.-SPECIAL correspondent.] Wellington, Monday. The total increase in sheep in New Zealand last year was 549,461. The biggest decrease was in Hawke's Bay, viz,, 84,710. In Waimato County the decreaso was 20,213; Orua County, 19,945; Taieri, 17,730; Vincent, 11,440. The increase is spread over a large number of counties, the largest increase being in Cook County, viz., 00,093. Waipawa comes next with 58,192; North Wairarapa, 54,262 ; W aiapu, 29,502, Hast Taupo, 20,673; Patangata, 26,810; South Wairarapa, 35,482 ; Palliatua, 35,125; Ashley, 37,530; Selwyn. 46,608; Mackenzie, 42,289; Lake, 30,417 ; Bruce, 28,312. There aro 9,540,717 shoep in the North Island, and 10,147,237 in the South Island. The total number of sheep in the colony is 19,687,954. The increase in the North Island for the year was 408,981, and in the South Island 145,289.
