THE HOLIDAY.
To-morrow being tho anniversary of the Prince of Wales' Birthday, it will be observed as a olose holiday. The second day of the Spring Meeting of the Auokland Racing Club will take place at Ellerslie, the first race starting at noon. The Jubilee picnic of the Band of Hope will bo held in the Domain if tlw weather is flue, and if the weather is wet in the morning t,lio programme will commence in tho Choral Hall at halfpast two p.m. _ Excursionists who wish to spend the holiday 011 the water liavo quite a number oi places to choose from. At ten o'clock tonight the Northern Company's steamer lons will leave for tho Great Barrier, and is timed to leavo Blind Bay on Tuesday evening, There will be sufficient time allowed for those who desire to do so to visit the mines on the Island, while those who are on fishing intenl will have time to indulge their propensities, The steamer Muritai will leave for Coroman del at twelve o'clock to-night, and passenger! co 11 return to-morrow evening. To-morrow morning at half-past nine o clock th< S.S. Clansman will leave lor Wniheke, and by the kind permission of Mr. Thomson ex oursionists will be taken to the beautifu bay at the far end of the island. Tin Wellington (leaves ,for Waiwera at II ii,m., returning in the evening. Thi Dcvonport Steam Ferry Company wil run the steamers Admiral and Hirerc to Pine Island, the first steamer leav ing at 9.30 a.m. The Britannia will run t< Lake l'akapnna during the day, starting a 10 a.m.: the Osprey to Rangitoto, start ing at 9.30 a.m. Tho Beatrice and Plane will run to Motutapu, leaving at 9.30 a.in and after landing passengers at tin Island will leave for;' the fishine grounds in the vicinity. Steamers wil run to St. Heliers Bay during the day commencing at ten a.m. A quick service ti and from Devonport, Northcote, and Birken head will bo maintained during the day. Th s,s. Kai Ora will leave for Piitiki Bay, Wai lieke, at ten a.m., and Captain Kennedy ha 1 granted permission to excursionists to land oi his property.
