London, October 3. In the hundred yards swimming rac< 1 at Hornsey both the heats were. won by Tyers, who beat Derbyshire and Hellings. The latter beat Cohen, an Englishman, Lindsay, an Australian, being a touch behind. The final resulted in a magnificent struggle. Hellings swam 44 yards in 255,, and was clear of his opponents at 76 yards, being a yard ahead of Derbyshire, and a yard and a half in front of Tyers, Hillings missed the final turn, and Tyers, with a splendid spurt, won by six inches, Hellings and Derbyshire were a dead heat for second place. Time, 63 3-ss.
