YOUTHS' INSTITUTE.
TO TH EDITOR. . '' . .r,| Sik, —Now that a Youths' Institute fi ''icome to be talked about. I would crave . space tor » few lines. A Youths' Institute, ii | or something of that sort, is needed iu this 1 city of ours. The boys •of Auckland h&vefe^ very few places of refuge and rest; religious institutions they will not enter or have any- \ • thing to do with. Some of them have no' homes in the rati meaiiing of the term, con- . sequently they ko on to the streets, and drift •; away into gambling dens, public-houses, and other places of vice and evil amusement. fj Let any of our citizens %6 down any of the streets of the city, whether /main streets or side streets, between the hours of seven p.m. : : : and ten p.m., and judge for themselves whether such an institution is needed, This •" would be a good opportunity for those people - >.? who object to foreiifn missions, and say that missionary work should be done at home % first. 'Now let these people shell out. and see what they can do to reclaim the youth of this city; In doing so they not only help . these poor youths, but their own selves, in 1 making it more safe for their own children I to get about at night and lessening the* evil and'vice of the city. Let the people of Auckland realise that in helping others they help themselves. If I may suggest, the City Market, which is now a marine store, would ytj be a good place for such an institution. Xi * There is plenty of room there, and homeless lads could be accommodated with a supper and shake-down. There would be room there for football, gymnasium, etc.—l am, etc., - SIIiVA.VUS.
