MANUKAU WATER SUPPLY BOARD.
K Bill was submitted to the Onehunga Borough Council at its last ordinary meeting by the Manukau Water Supply Board, having a very important bearing on the water question in that) township. .When the Bill came up for consideration, it was referred to Messrs. Russell and Campbell, the borough solicitors, for their consideration. After conferring with Mr. Wyoyard, acting on behalf of the Manukau Water Supply Board, certain alterations ware made and embodied in a new Bill, which it is proposed to introduce into Parliament during the present session. The amended Bill come before the Onebunga Borough Council in committee last Monday night, but owing to the absence of four of the members, it was resolved to defer further consideration until the ordinary meeting next Monday night. In view of the importance of the question, the- following clauses of the Bill will be interest:— , The said Council shall have the right to ; , take and use water from any one or more of ;-v- . such reserves for water purposes situated in i." - . tho Borough of Onehunga for the purpose of .v.. t■' a water supply for the Borough of Onehunga, $0-' and also the right to erect machinery and 7,V-' buildings, and construct water-races upon or J iu such portion of any such leserve not ex- : ■ 4 ceeding in all one-half the area of auy of such reserves, as shall for that purpose be required, and for the construction of any waterrace. The Manukau Water Supply Board r ' shall, subject to the right of the Couuoil, to take and use sufficient water for the supply • ef the inhabitants of the said borough, but f,. in priority to any other local body or person ;i&iV whomsoever, have the right to take and use =ifj'.;*rater from any of such reserve* for water y-C'v 1 purposes free of charge for the purpose of 'a Tfi&Awater • supply for;the • inhabitants; of the Manukau • water ! supply ; district, and any lecal bodies and persons : whom • the Board \^^may : agree to supply with water, ; and lor. r'!I*'1 *' Purpose to lay pipes into any spring ■• • situated en any of such reserveofor 'water IV -V-i purposes. .... •.. •; 14 !
