HAMILTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The Hamilton Borough Council held a meeting, on Wednesday afternoon, when there were present: Messrs. W. Dey (Mayor), Bettley, Crawford, Gwynne, Jones, Salmon, Sandes, and Slade. A letter was received from the Lands Department, not ifyiug the payment of £50, on account of the traffic bridge. Mr. B. Murray wrote through his solicitors, Messrs. Devore and Cooper, claiming compensation for damage doue to lot 60 by the earthwork of the traffic bridge. The letter was handed over to the legal committee to be dealt with. An application was received from several shopkeepers in Victoria-street to have the footpath in front of their shops asphalted. After the question had been thrashed out, the Council decided that they could not see their way to grant the request or to give any assistance in the matter.' The foreman of works and pouudkeeper's reports were received and _ adopted. The Council decided that in future the works committee should exercise a closer supervision over the works that are being curried on, and to that end should meet once a month to draw up a report for the Council on the work done, and prepare a list of works to be carried out during the ensuing month. Accounts amounting to £28 were passed for payment. It was decided to write to the auctioneers, j asking them whether two sales a month in the Borough yards instead of only one, as at present, would not be more satisfactory.
