WAITEMATA COUNTY COUNCIL.

Thb monthly meeting of this Council was held yesterday. Present: Messrs. Bruce (chairman), Reynolds, Sinclair, Mackay, O'Neil, Wilson, Cochran, and McEwen. Finance.—The monthly accounts, amounting to £359 19s 4d, were passed. Waikomiii-West Coast Road. - The tender of Mr. Roland Hill, jun., of £19 9s for the Red Hill deviation on this road was ac-

cepted. Whau Portage RoAD.-Mr. Ingram, Mr. Astley, and two others waited on the Couucil to request that a larger proportion of the rates they pay might be devoted to the drainage, formation, and metalling of this road. The deputation maintained that the Council had paid a large portion of their rates elsewhere ia the riding. Mrs. Hogg wrote complaining that the road had been rendered impassable by excessive loads carted to the tanneries. In reply to this, Mr. Astley said lie had to compete with other tanneries who had good roads to their tanyards. The request for farther expenditure other than that already authorised on the road was declined. Henderson Valley Road.—Mγ. Mander attended in response to a demand from the Council for the payment of £38 2s 6d, being half the coat the Council had been put to in repairing the damage to the road caused by Mander and Bradley's timber traffic. Mr. Mander said his firm had already spent £50 in repairs, and thought that Mr. Cowan, who also used the road for timber hauling, should be called on to contribute. After considerable discussion it was resolved to adhere to the original resolution. RiVERHEAD.-Mr. and Mrs. Herd applied for road access to their land at Paremoremo, as the road which had been laid out for their convenience had subsequently been sold by the proprietor. Mr. Little applied for deviation of the road known as Carter's Road, Waikomiti, in order to get a better grade, and offered land free of cost for that purpose. Both applications were referred to the engineer to report upon. Waikomiti Cesietery City Council's offer to contribute £15 in scoria for

the repairs of this road, was accepted with thanks, and referred to the engineer in conjunction with the city engineer to deal with. I^orthcote.—An application from Messrs. S. Vaile and Sons for a new culvert approach to the Gladstone Hall property, was referred to the Chairman to deal with. Takapuna.—Mr. Edwin Hall's application for repairs to the road leading to Mrs. Charlier's property was referred to Mr. Mackay with power to act. Wade.-An application from the Agricultural Hall Company for drainage and repairs on the road facing their property was referred to Mr. Hadneld to deal with. It was also resolved that the engineer have the approaches to Luca3 ! Creek Wharf put iu order.

Kadkapakapa,—lt was resolved to accept Mr. Hugh Fulton's tender to quarry and supply gravel at the following prices :—(1) To Wainui Koad crossing at 2s 9d per cubic yard; (2) to railway station yard at 3s per cubic yard-350 yards in all. Mairetahi.—lt was resolved to have the main road through the Paparoa and Aotea Blocks between Helensville and the South Kaipara Head, and also a road known as Buckland'g Road proclaimed public highways under section 100 of the Pubio Works Act, 1894, and to deposit certified plans of the same with the Chief Surveyor and the Registrar of Deeds. Taupaki,—The engineer was authorised to have Russell's bridge, near Taupaki station, re-plunked, and to report on what repairs to the Kumeu bridge are needed. Wabiauku-West Coast Road.—Mr. S. J. Frost's offer to expend £6 in fascining this road. Doq Tax DEFAULTERS.-It was resolved to

take proceeediugs against three persons at Dairy Flat and one at the Wade for keeping unregistered dogs. Mr. Sinclair complained chat dogs belonging to natives from Makarau were destroying sheep at Kaukapakapa. It was also resolved tbat the Chairman and Mr. Wilson wait upen the Birkenhead Borough Council and urge that body to enforce the provisions of the Dog Registration Act within that borough. Heleusville-Mairitahi Road.—On the motion of Mr. McEwen, it was resolved to call for tenders for quarrying and breaking 350 yards of hard metal, to be placed on this road iu the summer. Mr. J. A. Wilson wrote offering to pay half the cost of. a road drain in front of his property, sear Helensville, it the Council would contribute an equal amount, and on condition that the road proposed to be closed through his property should remain public property, The offer was accepted. MaißETAiii LoAN.-The consideration of the new proposals for paying of this loan was adjourned till next meeting.
