AUCKLAND RETAILERS ASSOCIATION.

A meeting of retail shopkeepers was held at the, rooms of th« Y.M.C.A. yesterday. There were present: Messrs. W. H. Smith, G.' Fowlds, H. C. Choyce, H. Collins, Br»dstreet,..G. Moody,. F. Maxwell, J. Munns, C... Hopkins, H. J. Edmiskon, Browne, McLachlan, and .others. Mr. Bridgewster, the'decretory pro tern., said he had received it letter from the secretary of a similar association 1 at Dunedin, which stated thattheDanedin Retailers' Association had been a marked success, and now numbered about 170. , They had agreed upon (tie general holiday list, aud had decided not to give 'to bazaars, picnics, sports, or prize funds. They had also interviewed the wholesale firms to try and induce them not to supply persons not) in trade. The, Chairman 1 asked for an •> opinion as to the desirability of forming an association with jo small a meeting. Mr. Smith pronosed thiit an association, bo formed .entitled the Auckland Retailers' Association, which was seconded by Mr. Collins, and supported by Messrs. Edmiaton, Bradstreet, and others, and carried unanimously. Mr. Bridgwater was elected secretary pro tem. The meeting was then adjourned to Thursday, the 19th, at three p.m.
