QUEENSLAND REVENUE.
Brisbane, August 5. The Budget shows that the revenue bat fallen short of the Estimate . £54,800. Practically, 1 the only increase doting th« year was in railways, .which topped the Estimate by £58,800. Customs declined £91,000, of which £36,000 was due to additions to the free list. The revenue ior the year amounted to £3,613,000, and the expenditure was £3,601,000. A forecast foe the ensuing year gives estimated revenue £3,671,000, and expenditure £3,689,000. II is proposed to provide for the deficiency by re-imposing fcha excise duty on beer of 3d per gallon, also an extra 3d per gallon on imported ales. w' THE COMMONWEALTH BILL. Sydney, August 5, . The Legislative Assembly carried an amendment in favonr of the recognition oi God in the Commonwealth Bill.
A CONVERT TO ROME.
Melbourne, August 5. Canon Grigson, until recently a prominent Anglican clergyman in Worth Queensland, has been converted to the Church of Rome, and received into the Church at Ballarat. He goes Home, and places himself in the hands of Cardinal Vaughan. QUEENSLAND DEPOSIT BANK. . Brisbane, Augusts, At a meeting of creditors of the Queensland Deposit Bank, the directors submitted < a scheme of re-arrangement extending ovqi, twenty years. . After a severe discussion, a majority decided in favour of the scheme, but as the requisite three-fourths in valtft | was not reached, the scheme was rejected, causing great consternation. v
COMMERCIAL BANK. Melbourne, August 5. , At a meeting of the Commercial Bank the profit* for the half year are shown to be £52,000. A dividend of two per cent was declared on preference shares; £23,000 f all placed to the assets trust special reserve; and £4200 was carried forward.
