BURIED ALIVE FOR EIGHTEEN YEARS.
A case of the grossest brutality, which at the same time illustrates a remarkable' tenacity to life under the most adverse' circumstances, is reported from Italy, At Sesto Imolese, near Bolonga, thepolioe hare discovered a young wOman, twentyyears of age, who has been practically buried alive for eighteen year#.' When fohr years • old she lost consecutively the use 'Of her 1 arms and legs, but so far from being pitied her inhuman parents ' threw , Her into'a disused cistern by the side of the house and fastened a board over the top. Twice daily pieces of broad and oniotts were thrown into the cistern, and from -time to time a' pot of water wu introduced,.but no further notice was taken of the girl. < After eighteen years passed thus some carabineers patrol-' ii ling;. the district discovered her: through hearing her scream daring the night. % She was promptly i removed ito the > Saletta Hospital : at Imola, where some hopes were entertained M' improving bar deplorable' condition.
