proceedings OP THE SELECT -/. ; COMMITTEE.. ';.. ']~[ . evidence of THE NEW ZEALAND EXPERT. • .' '•-. : • :)' ,■ v y-; . ' ' Pr«MA«»ocin!inn,-El«ctrlcT«l«n»ph.—Co»irl»M. London, July 29.,.' Mr. R. A. Cameron, the New Zealand Expert, in giving evidence ' before 'the Select Committee of the House ,of Commons on the Bill dealing with the marking of agricultural produce* emphasised the necessity for inspection and grading which had insured' such equality in New Zealand produce. Mr. Cameron denounced Mr, )YiiigfieldDigby's statement in the House of Commons condemning colonial produce as untrue. He dwelt on the absence of disease in New Zealand, and the extreme pains the farmers were at to produce the highest quality of mutton. He suggested that live foreign importations ought to bo prohibited from being sold as British, while all colonial produce ought to be called colonial, and marked with the country of its origin.

The, evidence given by the colonial experts greatly impressed the committee.

Mr. Wingaeld-Digby, M.P., has withdrawn the statements lie made reflect* ing.'on Australian frozen meat. Ho states he is sorry if the colonies are hurl at his remarks, '

It is understood that the committee intends to report in favour of the Agrimltural Produce Marks Bill, and to 'ecommnnd that all colonial produce should be marked "colonial," while other countries should be denominated "foreign." It will also favour all live or dead meat imported being marked aboard the vessel.
