' ♦ — The following candidates, who have been studying at the Trinity House Navigation and Steam Schools, Wellington, have recently passed their examinations for certificates of competency in the Mercantile Marine, viz.:—George A. Broad, late second officer, s.s. Hauroto, as first mate; John Reid, late of s.s, Wareatea, as only mate; John N. Beighton, late apprentice barque Onyx, as second mate; William ftisbet, second engineer s.s. Mahinapua, as firstclass engineer; William 6. Morrison, third engineer s.s, Rotokino, as second-class engineer; Arthur Knight, fireman i.s, Ahuriri, as engineer of a steamer plying within restricted limits,
