PIAKO COUNTY COUNCIL.

The monthly meeting of the above Council was held at Morrinsville on Friday lait, when there were presents-Messrs. Chepmell (in the chair), Harrison, Hunt, McCaw, Ring, Farmer, Gavin, and Herries. The electoral rolls and defaulters' lists for the various Ridings were laid on the table. Gorbon - Waharoa Road.—Plaus and specifications for tbe various contracts on this road were put before the Council. As the Government have agreed to give a subsidy amounting to £600 on the work done, Mr. Wilson, mining engineer, in accordance with instructions received from Mr. Cadman, examined and approved the specifications. The clerk reported that contracts to tbe amount of £1457 had been let, of which sum £742 had been already paid. Mr. Wilson had recommended a progress payment of £315 lie Bd. Ti Aroha Bridge Approach.-The Government having voted £150 towards the cost of improving this approach, the plan and specifications were submitted to the Railway Engineer, who had made certain amendments. These were adopted by the Council, who decided to sail tenders for the work. Waiorongokai Road.—Plans and specifications for repairs to this road, including new bridge at Stoney Creek, were passed. The Government have allowed £300 for these works.

Larney's Draix—A further letter was received from Air. N. A. Larney re the filling up of his drain. The letter was ordered to be received. Slaughterhouse License.—An application was received from W. A. Roberts, Tβ Aroha, for a slaughterhouse license. The inspector's report (which showed that the proposed site wa,s the regulation distance from the road and nearest dwelling, was read, and as there was no objection lodged, the license was granted. Waiorongosiai tramway.—The Aroha Gold Mines (Limited) were granted the use of this tram for another month on the same terms as hitherto. Constructing Tram.—An application was received from Steele, Brothers for permission to construct a tram line across the OxfordRotorua Road. The Council decided to grant the permission applied for on the conditions as prescribed in the Act. Rates.'-Iu accordance with notice given at last meeting the following rates for the ensuing year were struck :-General rate, id in the £; separate rate, Patetere riding, id; separate rate, Te Aroha riding, id. Valuation* Roll.-The various transfers, as read by the Clerk, were passed. Contract No. 33.—A Utter was received from B. Montague asking for payment of £5, being outlay on this contiact, which had been terminated by the Council through a dispute about an alteration in the specifications. This matter was referred to Mr. Johnson, the engineer. Montague also wrote complaining of the delay he was experiencing in connection with his contract for cutting down Monro s Hill, and also the erection of bridges. The council decided to pass whatever portion of his work had been completed to the satisfaction of the foreman. Overdraft.—The_ manager of the Bank of New Zealand, Hamilton, forwarded printed formal resolutions,'which he asked council to pass in connection with their application for an overdraft. These resolutions were adopted. Piako Bridge.— The following tenders were received for the erection ot a new bridge :-Cochrane. Auckland, £468 ; Newsome and Coiilson, Paeroa. £518 11s; R. Morse, Cambridge, £547; W. T. Dixon, Te Aroha, £562; 1). T.. Forsytk, Auckland, £574 Ila 8(1; J. W. Graham, Waihi, £577 10?; D. Henderson, Ngaruawahia, £683; W, F. Brown, Karangahake. £58S; G. Garton, Paeroa, £586: G. T. Worthington, Taupiri, £625; W. Thompson, Te Aroha, £637; C. Tonge, Te Aroha, £675. The council ruled that Cochrane's tender having been received by wire was informal. The tender of Newsome and Coulson (£5lB 11s) was accepted. The engineer's estimate was £594. Foreman's Report.—G. Wattam reported great damage having been done in his district by floods. It was decided to approve the specifications, and call tenders for the various works suggested by him. Repairs at Gordon.—The Council decided to re-erect the bridge at Thacker/s, and cut down the hill, the Special) Settlement Association agreeing to pay £ for £ on the cost of the latter work. Dam at GoRDON.-Mr. Jno. Brady, of Gordou, wrote reminding the Council of their promise to keep the dam on Montague's property iu order. It was remitted to the clerk to look up the correspondence and minutes ou this subject and report thereon. Applications for New Roads.—Messrs. C. Ring, Stembridge.and Stanley applied for a new road to be opened up, giving access to their property, which road would also be a convenience to other settlers in the district. The clerk was instructed to write asking the applicant! if they would be prepared to give tbe land free of cost. Accounts.—A number of accounts were passed for payment.—[Own Correspondent.]
