The Rev. F. G. Copeland, vicar of Exhan, Tasmania, is at present on a visit to the Hot Lakes District. The death is announced of Mr. D. A. j Beaumont, one of the best known amateur musicians in Melbourne. Captain Leah, who recently arrived from England, is now in command of H.M.s, Mildura, shortly expected to arrive in Auckland. Mr. Percy Butler, of the Phoenix Assurance Company's head office, Wellington, will take temporary charge of that company's Auckland business from Tuesday next. Kir. Henry Gray, late dairy produce expert in London to the New Zealand Government, is a passenger to Wellington by the lonic, which arrived .at Hobart yesterday. air. Gourley, late postmaster atWaitara, was banqueted at Waitara on Friday eight, prior to bis departure for Waimate, South Canterbury, to which place he has been transferred. The Earl and Countess of Ranfurly, who will arrive about the beginning of August next, are to be invited to attend a ball given by the Port Nicholson Yacht Club on the 13th of that month. A marble headstone, erected by engineers of the Shaw, Savill, and Albion Company and White Star steamers, to the memory of the late Mr. Thomas Angus, who was chief refrigerating engineer of the 8.8. Pakeha, has been put up in the Linwood Cemetery, Wellington. A very old resident of Canterbury, Mr. Iwac B. Sheath, died last week at the age of 83 years. Mr. Sheath was at one time a partner in the firm of Hollie and Sheath, the well-known English gunmaken. He came to New Zealand more than thirty years ago, and was for several years occupied in pastoral pursuits. He afterwards engaged in business as an ironmonger in Ghristchurch, but) retired some years ago. An interesting reunion occurred in Mr. James' parlour, at Ashburton, the other day, where the four commercial traveller* met who had represented P. Hayman and Co. in succession for the past 17 years, They comprised Mr. R. Wark, who is still in the company's service; Mr. J. A. X. Beidle, manager of the Dresden Piano Company; Mr.. B. Williams, of Messrs. Benn Brothers; and Mr. H. N. Anderson, itationer, Aehburton. The meeting was wholly accidental, and was a coincidence that may not occur again in a lifetime. At a social held on Tuesday night in the Joblic Hall, Mangere, the chairman (Mr. E. Allen), on behalf of the member* of the Presbyterian Church, presented Mr. and tin.
