WHANGAREI COUNTY COUNCIL.

The monthly meeting of the above Council took place at noon on May 12, 1897, in the County Office, Whangarei. Present: Messrs. Ross (chairman), Kerr, Barker, Cutforth, H. McKenzie, Minchio, Carter, Gunson, N. McKenzie, D. C. Wilson (engineer), and J. McKiunon (clerk and treasurer). Correspondence.—Copies of the outward correspondence was read and approved of. Incoming correspondence was also read and dealt with. Closing Road .at Parua Bay.— the motion of Mr. Ross, seconded by Mr. N. McKenzie, resolved," That the Council approve of the Parua Bay Ro?d Board closing certain roads in the Parua district, as per plan submitted and also approved of by the Court." Pakikaikutu Road.—Ou the motion of Mr. Ross, seconded by Mr. Gunson, resolved, "Thatthe arrangements made with the by the county engineer with reference to the above road, be approved of." The 1 agreement is 'dated and signed by the natives oil the 26th April, 1897. Compensation.—Mr. R. Hodge claimed certain compensation for a road taken through lot 43, Ruatangata. On the motion of Mr. Minchin, seconded by Mr. H. McKenzie,. resolved, "That the claim cannot be recognised by the Council.'' Madno Road Board.— the motion of Mr. H. McKebzie, seconded by Mr. Cutforth, resolved, " That the offer of the above Board to defray the cost ot an additional 50 cubic yards of metal on the Ma'unu Road be accepted, and that the Council will subsidise the.Board to the extent of £2 towards the construction of a road to the High School . Reserve for the benefit of Mrs. Edge and others.

• Road from High School Reserve to Railway Wharf. the motion of Mr. Cutforth, seconded by Mr. H. Mcßenzie, resolved, That the engineer be instructed to interview the . Maoris re a road from the Kioreora. Reserve to the Railway Wharf, .and ascertain on what terms the road may be, taken,. and report to the next meeting of the Council.", WHABCOB4-NGDNODBD ROAD. -On the motion of Mr. Barker, seconded by Mr. Ross,' resolved, " That the engineer report to the next; meeting of the Council as to the cost of erecting a sew bridge or repairing the present one on the road at McKinnon's."

Accounts. the motion ef Mr. Ross, seconded by Mr. N. McKenzie, resolved. That the accounts amounting to £477 7s 6d be paid when the Council are in funds."— [Own Correspondent.].
