SERIOUS ACCIDENT AT THE THAMES.

[BY TELEGRAPH,— CORRESPONDENT.] Thames, Monday, A very serious accident occurred to a carpenter named Richard Owen, this morning whilst employed in the erection of the new addition to the Moanatairi Gold Mining Company's battery building, It appears that Owen was stepping from one plank to another when he missed his footing and fell from a height of about 20 feet to the ground. When picked up he was quite unconscious, and upon being taken to the hospital it was discovered that he had sustained a nasty scalp wound with concussion of the brain. Several ribs wero broken and his spine also severely injured, the lower limbs being paralysed. Owen now lies in a very critical state.
