That Mr. Dignan is the Senior Councillor, and is intimately acquainted with the working of the different committees and departments of the City of Auckland. 2. That he has filled the position of Acting-Mayor (owing to the illness of Mr. A. Boardman) to the satisfaction of the Councillors in every way, and with due consideration for the interest of the City. 3. That on the fair principle of recognising the efforts of one who has done the work, and giving honour when due and earned, is the reason that actuates me in retiring in favour of Mr. Dignan.
