Wellington, Thursday. Sisck February the selectors in arrears in the Wellington district decreased ' from 1379 to 647, and the amount owing from £14,100 to £6343. Of those still in debt 403 owe only one payment.
The insurance on Compton'e sawmill, Wellington, partly destroyed by fire last night, is £800 in the Northern Company. TIMARU, Thursday. The Tiraaru Gas Company declined the Borough Council's offer of £22,000 for their works, saying the shares sell for more in the open market, New Plymouth, Thursday. Obituary: Mr. J. T. Upjohn, aged 89. (Hβ was a very old settler of Taranaki, and formerly a member of the Provincial Council.
Uhkhtchuroh, Thursday. Ab a meeting to night, attended by about) 140 persons, a motion favouring the abolition of capital punishment was carried, with live dissentients.
LvraoAßuiLL, Thursday. The report that a tender of 6s 6d in the £ was accepted by tho Official Liquidator of the Waiter Guthrie Company Limited), of Invercargill, was incorrect. The successful tenderer's offer waa 8a in the £, cash. The purchase money on this basis has been paid, and the stock is now being realised on by Thomson, Bridger and Co.
