VICTORIA, THE GREAT, GOOD, WISE, &c.
TO Til EDITOR. Sir,—lt is 11 lons time since I left school, and I have not read history very much since, but surely I remember that surnames were always given to sovereigns to distinguish them from other rulers of the same name. Thus, we do not hear of Elizabeth the Great, though many would think her worthy of that title. We have our- William the Conqueror, who ii distinguished by his surname from all our other kings of that name. If this surmise is correct, and I put it forth in all modesty, and subject to correction by others better read in history than myself, it would appear that all propositions for a surname for our Queen are a little ridiculous.— am, etc., Spectator.
