WAITEMATA COUNTY COUNCIL.

The ordinary monthly meeting of the Waitsmata County Council, held yesterday, was attended by Mcesrs. A. Bruce (chairman), R. Mackay, A. Wilson, A. J. Hatfield, jun., R. Sinclair, J. J. Reynolds, J. O'Neill, and A. Cochran.

Tenders.—The following tenders were accepted For improving West Coast Road, T. J. Russell, £143 13s 4d ; forming 40 chains of the old North Road, J. J. Nixon, £13 12s 2d; for embankment and culvert, Rautawhiri, John Morris, £13 ; covering fascines, Rautawhiri, John Kavanagh, £8 2s; for lease of Mahony's land, Lucas Creek, for 21 years, William Stevenson, jun., £12 pec annum. ;

Land Fond.— engineer was instructed to submit at next meeting a scheme for the expenditure of perpetual lease loan and deferred payments, amounting to £SS. Birkenhead.-A request from the local agent of Rear-Admiral Spain for permission to form two new roads through a block ol land at. Birkeuhead was referred to the engineer to report upon by next meeting. Riding Works. -The following work! were authorised :—Bridges on the old railway line at Riverhcad and Harkins' Point Road to be repaired; Waterloo Bridge, Wainui, to be repaired at a cost of £5; Long Bay Road to be repaired out of the rates accruing from the properties on the line. It was agreed to pay Mr. C. Cowan £10, being half cost of repairs made by him to the Henderson-West Coast Road, It was agreed to metal the Albany-Dairy Flat Road as far as Volkner's lull. Iu reply to Captain McMahon's request it was resolved to pay half cost of making road drain, about 15 chains in length, along the boundary of his property at Mairetahi. The Council resolved to defer the formation of Hum Mill Bay Road and the erection of a bridge over the Huia River until mora definite information had been obtained as to the amount of th« special grant available for the work. The engineer's report recommending the metalling of the New Lynn Portage Road in section! was adopted. The Council decided to defini and sur\eyMackay's Deviation, Brooklyn On the motion of Mr. Reynolds, it was resolved to call for tenders for carting metal on the Parkhurst Road. It was agreed to inform Messrs. Jagger and Parker that thi Council would hold them liable for hall the cost of repairs to the Riverhead Road, alleged to have been damaged by haulage ol timber. The Council authorised the employment of extra labour for spreading metal on the Waikomiti- West Coast Ro.id, and a man for a month to repair the Huia Road. Owing to the excess of compensation demanded it was resolved that no further action be taken in the matter of opening up a new line of road in theßirkcnhead-Takapuna locality. Waikomiti-West Coast Road.-Iu reply to a letter fiom Captain Theet.it was resolved to inform him that tho Council had decided to metal ten chains of the above road at a cost of £42.

Parker's Road, Waikomiti.-The report of the engineer recommending improvement! on this road was adopted, and the tender of Mr. McCowan of £9 3s for the work, was accepted. A letter was read from Messrs. Hesketh and Richmond, writing on behalf of Mr. Parker, in which it was stated that the Council would be held responsible for any damage done to their client's property. he Council decided to disclaim any liability. Mairetahi Loan.— Further correspondence from the county solicitors on this matter was considered, and deferred till next meeting, as the member for that riding was absent through illness in his family.
