THE BANK RATE OF DISCO UNT. Press Association.-Electric J'elesrapli.-Copjrielit. London, January 21. The Bank ot Enjrland rate of discount has been reduced to 3J per cent.

WOOL. The wool market is firm, and there is brisk general competition. At to-day's sales merino were neglected, but crossbreds sold well. English ami German buyers secured the bulk of the wool sold.

Wellington, January 2-2. - The second wool Bale of the season , was held today. There was an unusually largo attendance of buyers, five of whom operated on account of English manufacturers, aud two on Continental account. The catalogue was the largest ever bi ought forward in Wellington, consisting of some SOOO bales, of which about two-thirds were passed in. There was practically no competition, the bidding being very dull throughout, due, no doubt, to the adverse repor; concerning the opening of the first series in London. The prices ruling showed au average decline of \\ to fd per lb. The following is n list of the prices obtaining :—Crossbred, superior, VA to 8d; medium, 6?d to 7|d j pieces and bellies, 4d to ad; locks and nieces, 2id to 3Jd j locks, Id to 21d. RAM AND EWE FAIR. Wellington, Jannary 22.—At the ram nnd ewe fair to-day buyers were not disposed to pay the high prices demanded, chiefly for Laicesters and Liucolns. Stnri Romneys brought up to 6 guineas; flock Romneys, 1 to 2J guineas: stud Liocolus from 3 to 8 guineas; flock Lincolus, li to 2J guineas. Leicester averaged about 1\ guineas.
