Darwin.—No. 1 reef at the Multum level continues to show good prospects as its development proceeds. In tho drive ib has opened out to about 18in in thickness and shows colours of gold pretty freely. It also looks well in tho stopeabove the drive, and the manager is very hopeful of opening up a remunerative block. May Queen Extended.—The prospecting crosscut in the Onehunga is now in a distance of 118 feet, and during tho past week somo veins of quartz wero passed through, varying in size from two inches downward, in which colours of gold were seen. Adelaide.—The main roef at tho low level is now opened up for a length of 76 feet, of which 42 feet is on tho north side of the crosscut and 34 feet on the south side, whilst tho leading stopo is along 30 feet above the north drive. This latter drive was at a standstill during the early part of the week owing to tho large inflow of water which was tapped daring the previous week,,but as the water had abated somewhat by Thursday the extension of the drive was again resumed on that date. The reef in the faco varies from nine inches to a foot in thickness and shows colours of gold, but in the southern drive it is much smaller although showing stronger gold. It is probable, however, that tho reef will incroaso in size again shortly. Paeroa, Friday. Waitekauri Extended.—All tho machinery for the Waitekauri Extended Company's now battery has now been landed at Hikutaia, and its conveyance to the battery tito is now being undertaken. In order to got ib on the ground as quickly as possible, a road about 7$ miles in length had to be niado at the company's expense. The company, therefore, deserve tho highest possible success in their ontorprise, and if the large odes in the mines realise expectations, tho now reduction works should turn out remunerative returns for a long time "0 come. Talisman.— Union Company of San Francisco are tho successful tenderers for the additions to the Talisman Company's battery, and a commencement has beon mndo to carry Dub the enlargement scheme. Tho battery, as is already known, is to be augmented by 10 now stampers; while an entirely now cyanide plant is to be erected on the old site opposite the Woodstock battery. This plant will comprise 10 largo percolation vats 22 feot in diameter, besides the two uroady in use in tho present plant, thus making 12 vats in all. There will also bo six berdatis and the necessary sumps, etc. ; while one new feature will bo that tho whole plant will be driven by means of electricity to be generated on tho opposite side of Waitawhota and transmitted across tho river. The new works are being carried out under the supervision of Mr. Payne. : New Zealand Jubilee.—The low level is still being pushed ahead expeditiously, and fino reefing country is boing penetrated. Ibis anticipated that a number of lodes will bo mot with, and in view of future operations, tho present battory will, 1 understand, be removed further down towards Waitekauri, where valuable water-rights have been secured. Woodstock.— development works of this mine aro proceeding satisfactorily, under the management of Mr. J. McCombio, and there aro enough reserves in sight to keep the now plant steadily employed for a long period to come. At the No. 1, or Hauraki lovol, tho lodo has boon opened up for a total distance of 372 feot, and tho lode at present is producing about three feet- of payable oro. A good supply of crushin'g dirt is also being won from the slopes at the northern end, and here the reef looks evon better than it does in the southern workings. Tho contractorsfor driving on tho Talisman reef havo finished their contract, but as tho holidays are so near no more work will be done on tho lode until after tho resumption of operations in January. In tho face of the drive the reef is nob showing to advantage, and as a consequence tho oro is nob quite so good. Tho same remark applies to tho lode in the intermediate crosscut, whore the ore body is very much disturbed, owing to the close proximity of a fault, which appears to striko right through tho country. The lower levels, howevover, viz., No.s. 3, 4, and 5, are producing oro of a profitable nature, and the lodo boing of large sizo a line supply ot quartz can be broken out without any difficulty. A noticoablo improvement is manifest in bho No. 4 level, and the lode seems to get better tho further tho exploitations are carriod southward. This is exceedingly encouraging, and there is ovcry probability that tho saino shoot of rich ore worked in the level above will soon be intersected in the No. 4. Altogether the mine is looking very well, and ib should give payable yields of bullion when the new mill is in good crushing brim/ Paeroa, Saturday. Grand Junction.—ln tho Junction shaft the chambor is now completed, and 6Qts of timber having been put in both north and south crosscuts are woll under way. In the Waihi west section the rise and air winze havo been connected, and cro3?cutting was I resumed yesterday. ' Talisman.— Fine pi .(gross is being made with the extension of No. 6 level crosscut, and ib is anticipated that tho No. 2 lode will soon bo to hand. About 40 feot back from the face a nice kindly-looking body of ore, about four feet wide, was intersected, but beyond passing through the reef no work has yet been dono upon ib. A supply of nice kindly-looking stone is being won from the roof at No. 5 level, and as the quartz is much cleaner than ib is above there should not bo nearly so much trouble in the treatment of it, that is, so far as percolation is concerned. At the conclusion of the business at the Warden's Court to-day Mr. Miller, addressing the Warden, said that the year just closing had been remarkable for the immense amount of business transacted at the Warden's Court, and the members of the Bar hoped that the Warden would benefit by his ensuing holiday and recreation. On behalf of the Bar, he wished the Warden a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. He also desired to tender the thanks of the Bar to the Warden and officers of the Court for the valuable assistance rendered to the members of the profession at all times. Mr. Eyre Kenny (the Warden), in reply, thanked the members of the Bar for their kind expressions of solicitude. They had all had a very heavy year, and increased prosperity had occurred in the district, which undoubtedly had a bright future before it. This was a matter of satisfaction to him, and no doubt the members of the Bar had still more solid sources of satisfaction. In spite of the heavy amount of work which had come before it, the Court had been conducted in a very pleasant manner, and, although some rather knotty points had been brought before him, which had been hard fought, still they had never had any disagreeable scenes in Court. All the members of the bar, both here, nt Coromandel, and in Auckland, had presented their legal business before him in such a way as to enable him to get through the same in a satisfactory manner. He also desired to thank the officers of the Court, and especially Mr. Jordan, for the valuable assistance they bad rendered to him. Mr. Jordan had proved an excellent officer, and had kept the eye of a lynx on all matters in connection with the business of the Court. He (the Warden) heartily reciprocated the good wishes of the members of the Bar,, and hoped they would enjoy the few day 6' leisure which they had so well earned. HARP OF TARA G.M.CO. A meeting of shareholders in the Harp of Tara Gold Mining Company (No Liability) was held in the Mining Exchange Rooms, 75, Queen-street, on Saturday morning, Mr. J. W. Taylor in the chair. There was considerable discussion on various matters connected with the property in question, more particularly with regard to the proposed extension of the flotation option to the Messrs. Seaver Bros. While no immediate or set courso was decided upon in relation to this point the- suggestion thrown out that the meeting be in favour of granting a further extension of time provided that a representative of the shareholders be allowed to visit the mine at any time during the currency ot option with a view to reporting upon the progress and development of the property, was met with much favour. The Intla Ins been ;ry difficult to work during the past Week, the face t'eiiig a solid body ot quartz. Slow progress has li 'en made with the drive. There is no further change to report in th's section of the mine. Upper workings: The specimen leader has been cut at 104 feet from the starting point. As the leader was cut at a lower level than the bottom of the shift, J put a rise upright feet to connect with the shift. X have also driven five feet on the leader, and got fair dish prospect, and colours of gold in the stone. Or. the western side of the crosscut it has jtnctionud with another leader, and is from two to three lrrh-st thick ; the stone looks very well lor gold. Inch (Whinganiaia, December Twsnlj feet has been driven on the crosscut to intersect the main lode, making a total of US feet. On Friday I cut a reef 5 feet wide, the quartz being of a rulibly nature, and looks vary promising for «old. I don't think it can be either of the routs 1 am driving for I shall keep tlio crosscut right through the hill to try and cut all the hides running through. Juno (Kuaotunu, December Is).—Have sunk winze six feet, re-jf much the same; should knock through to No. 3 level in nine feet from present bottom. South-west drive Am getting good general dirt. No. 3 drive: The ground tins beau harder, but carries fair crushing dirt. 'there is a change of country coming in on bangingwall side, kindly stone for gold, and a flow of water coming from face, which looks well for a good body of .stone. Fabulous (Waikoromlko, December 17).—Drive on No i reef: The reef in the face is a bout two feet thick; on thehiinnngwall there is about nine inches of solid.quartz, the footwall portion being composed of sandstone and quartz stringers. The itef does not look so well in the face as it lid.. few feet back, where it is a nice, cr npact bod;.' j. i '.one, about 18 inches wide, of nice 'due quai tz, 1 glily impregnated with favourable mineral. Great Barrier Gold and Silver (Great Barrier).—The drive on No. 3 reef is now in 20 feet The only change is that the vein of buck quartz carried at the mouth of the level has now changed to payable ore. With another 25 feet of driving we should be underneath the place whore a beautiful class of sandstone country is outcropping on the surface which should much improve the character of the reef. The ore is stacked in two grades and we have now about seren tons of first-class ore ami about four of sennit. ItOYAL Sovei i'iGN (Thames),-No change to report. Progress-Castle Hock (Coromandol, December 17).-No. 3 level: In driving on the line of reef from the main face at this level, both branches have now come together, forming one solid body of ore four feet thick, with well defined walls and good country for gold. The crosscut gcing in from same level has now been driven for a distance of 12 feet, and has the No. ,2 reef to hand, being a fine body of ore nine inches through, and looks well for gold-jsirailar to.what.it was overhead. It will take another shift or two to get properly through it, after which I intend to keep on till the No. 3 reef is reached, these reefs being much nearer to hand than I anticipated. • . ■ .

Mount Catherine.—The drive in in 25 feet in good blue sandstone country of a blocky nature, , Mercantile (Cabbage Jsay).-Energetic headway is being made to open up oh the new find reefs and leaders. The main leader is 12 inches in thickness at present, and a well-defined body of ore carrying good mineral. The drive lias been extended a total of 70 feet from the mouth. Several backs and ironstone veins have been met with, including another leader IS Inches on the lootwall side. This leader is heavily mineralised and highly oxidised, and gives fair prospects in dish. 1 expect to cut big reef at any time from now; the country penetrated is of a very hard sandstone full of qus.rtz rubble. Jeiisky (Cabbage Ray, December Ifi).—Following up good prospects on Killarney boundary. A few good specimens hand from No. 7 lode.
