On Monday' Mr. J. W. Shackelford was elected Mayor of the Borough of 'Newton. He was nominated by Messrs. R. ' Warnook and Thomas McMaator.',.,, ' '■ Mr. J.' M. La'x'on was returned unopposed as Mayor of Newmarket. ,:V •. For,the office of Mayor of Parneli,. the only nomination received was.thab of Mr. J. 'J'hornes, who was duly declared elected by Mr. B. Gilmer, returning officer. ■' • Tho election of a Mayor for the borough of Dovonpbrt; on 'tho 25th of Nov., excited but little interest. ' The candidates were Messrs. J. (J. Macky and E. Dutton, and tho result was that Mr. Macky polled 161 votes, and Mr. Dutton 62.

Great interest was taken in the Onehunga Mayoral election which took place on Nov. 25th tho candidates being Mr, D. A, Sutherland, the retiring Mayor, and Mrs. Elizabeth Yates. Capt. Richardson was returning officer, assisted by Mr. G. J. Hutchison as poll clerk. The result was as follows —1). A. Sutherland, 198; Elizabeth Yates, 05; Informal, 2, Majority for Mr. Sutherland, 133. The contest for the Thames mayoralty on Wednesday, the 25th of November, excited considerable interest, and resulted in the re-election of Mr. Thos. Radford, who has already occupied the position for a period of three years, the number of votes polled in his favour being 269, as against 192 votes recorded for Mr. Francis Trembath.

, Mr, A.' Bach, the present Mayor of Cambridge, has been re-elected (unopposed) to the office for a second term.

> The nominations for the Mayoralty of Hamilton closed on Monday. The only candidate for civic honours was the retiring Mayor, Mr. Wra. Day, who waa declared duly elected. Mr. Walter A. L. Bailey ; was re-elected Mayor of Feilding unopposed. Mr. George Fisher and Mr. H. D. Bell have been nominated for the Mayoralty of Wellington. New Plymouth, Wednesday. Mr. J. B. Roy was elected Mayor for the fifth time, polling 310 to Mr. Furlongs 133. ' Napier, Wednesday. The following is the result of the Hastings Mayoral electionFitzroy, 277 J Ellis, 82.

Wanganui, Wednesday. The Mayoral election to day resulted in a tie between tho two candidates, A, Hatrick and J. L. Stevenson, the polling being the heaviest on record. The returning officer decided in favour of Stevenson by tossing a coin. f Wellington, Wednesday.Mr. H.D. Bell was to-dry elected Mayor, receiving 1239 votes. Mr. G. Fisher polled 852.

Hokitika, Wednesday, Mr H. L. Michel was olected Mayor, beating Mr J. Mendel, the present Mayor by 55 votes. Westfort, Wednesday, The Mayoral election to-day resulted in the re-election of Mr. H. Larsen for the' fourth time. He polled 205 votes; J. Scanlon, 196 ; S. Riley, 75. Grkymooth, Wednesday. Mr. J. T. Skoglund, the sitting Mayor, was re-elected. Mr, Ward was ro-elocted Mayor of Brunner. Christcuukcb, Wednesday. A good deal of interest was taken in the Mayoral election to-day. The result was— W. H. Cooper 692, J. T. Smith 525, majority for Cooper 167. ! Mr. A. Chalmers was elected Mayor of Lyttelton, and Mr. N. K. Bowden Mayor of Sydenham. Timaru, Wednesday. Mr. J. J. Grandi, an ex-councillor, was elected Mayor, beating Mr. John Jackson by 102 votes. Donedin, Wednesday. Tho city Mayoral election resulted' as followsH. Gourlay, 946; H. F. Hardy, 549. Majority for Gourloy, 379. At Roslyn L. Kemnitz defeated A. Matheson.

At Balclutha, where liquor and prohibition entered somewhat into the contest, •M. Corley (liquor) polled 119, and D. Stewart (prohibition) 95. Inveroargill, Wednesday. In the mayoral election, Mr. Josiah Hannan polled 358 votes as against 259 for Mr. John Stead.

Palmkbston North, Wednesday. The mayoral election resulted Mr. T. Wood, 344; Mr. H. Hogdon, 185.
