Hamilton. Thursday. Messhs. McNicol and Co. held a special horse sale in the borough yards yesterday, when 230 horses were offered. Good heavy draughts brought up to £32 10s, coach horses to £16, and good upstanding cobs brought £10; medium draught from £8 to £19. A farewell social was given last night to Mrs. Wm. McGregor Hay, who, with her family, is leaving Hamilton to reside in Auckland. The social took the form of a ntoaressive euchre party and wound up with a dance. During the evening several musical items were rendered, and altogether a most enjoyable time was spent. Mrs. and Miss 15. Hay were the recipients of two handsome gold brooches, presented by some of their lady friends, and Miss Mabel Hay was also presented with a handsome Japanese antimony tea set. _ Mrs. Hay leaves hereon Saturday and will be much missed in social circles, where she has been a leading spirit for the last 20' years. A meeting of the Borough Council was held yesterday, when the Mayor (Mr. W. Dey) was elected to represent the borough on the Waikata Hospital Board.
' Whatawuata, Thursday, Mr. Walters, who T»as here some years ago in charge of the public school, bus been appointed to the charge of the Te Kowhai School. Mr. Walters' mauy friends will be glad to welcome him back to the neighbourhood again. „ , Raglan, Thursday. At the meeting of the Raglan County Council, held yesterday, Mr. R. C. Mathias was elected chairman. Mr. J. McGuirk was appointed delegato for the Council on the W&ikato Hospital Board.
BUCKLAND.
The monthly meeting of the Band of Hope was held in the schoolroom on November 19. There v % very poor attendance. The president, Mr. Routly, occupied the chair, and Miss Braithwaite presided at the orsan, As it was the annual meeting, the members proceeded to elect officers for the ensuiug year. The following ladies and gentlemen were duly elected :-President, Mr. Routly; vicepresidents, Mrs. Sharp and M iss Braithwaite; secretary, M;s. Sharp; treasurer, Miss Sharp; organist;, Miss Braithwaite; committee, Misseß Johnstone (2), Misses Gregory (2), Messrs. Sharp, Janes, and Bayly. The secretary and treasurer of the outgoing committee read the report for the year, which we adopted, and showed a balance in hand of about [Own Correspondent.] ....
