NORTH AUCKLAND CHARITABLE AID BOARD.
At , the last meeting of the North Auckland Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, whioh took place on Tuesday, a unanimous vote of thanks was passed to the chairman of the Board (Mr. 0. D. McKeuzie) for'the satisfactory manner in which he had discharged the duties of chairman during the year. • Mr. McKeuzie, only deserves the thanks of the Board but the gratitude of the whole of the ratepayers of the North Auckland for the untiring attention and time he has given to the ministration of the charitable funds. When Mr. McKeuzie' took the chair the Board was heavily in debt (£1300), so much so that the bank would not honour enemies, and the liabilities due to the Auckland Hospital were large, and could not be met; but the Auckland Hospital authorities heeded not the poverty of the Northern Charitable Aid Board, and issued a writ of injunction against the Board for the debt due.... However, Mr. McKenzie nobly set to work; and through his energy, perseverance, and careful administration of the funds at the Board's disposal, the injunction of the Supreme Court was satisfied, thebankpverdraftpaid off, and if all assets were collected the present liabilities would be met, and a handsome surplus carried forward for the new Board to deal with. Not only are the thanks of the community due to Mr. McKenzie for getting the Board out of difficulties, but he has been the means of reducing the amount of charitable aid rate levied on all the taxpayers of the North. At the Board's' meeting Mr. J, M. McKay expressed regret that Mr. McKenzie, was retiring from public life, and stated that his place would not be easily rilled. Mr. MoKenzie had devoted at least two days a week during the past six years in looking after the interest of the county ratepayers of his riding, and the wants of the poor and distressed. Other members spoke in high terms of Mr. McKenzie's administrative abilities, well as his social qualities, • Mr. McKenzie thanked the Board for the high tribute of praise they had conferred on him, He only tried to do his duty, which was expected of all men when placed in positions of trust. The meeting adjourned, when Mr, McKinnon took a handsome photograph of the Board.—|own Correspondent.l '
