- An eccentric man named Isaac Chairman committed suicide by taking strychnine on Sept. 22 'ab Myross. He had ': arranged to ! leave his holding, on the carter going .for his chattels he found him dead.'! He had placed a rope over the room door with a ,slip noose, Chairman had for years written letters to the press which were unintelligible. - .;•;,' At an inq'iiesbon the body of G. K. Bond, architect, who died at Maaterton on Monday..night, the 7th of September, from a dose of carbolic acid self administered, a verdict of suicide while in a state of temporary insanity was returned. No cause is assigned for the deed, * (Charles Hillard Parker, commission agent and bailiff for many years in Christchurch, was found dead in his office onn the 11 th of September, apparently poisoned by himself. No traces of poison were found about the place, but a portion of some oranges was found in which lie in supposed to have taken poison.' In his pocket was a letter addressed to his wife, in which he states that 'This is, the. besb and only thing for me. lam mad.' It was signed'Hillary.' At the inquest on Monday, the 14th of Sept., the jury returned a verdict ' That deceased committed suicide by taking strychnine while he was of unsound mind.' " George Simson, better known as Jimmy Stewart, a labourer, committed suicide on Sept. 4 at Arrowtown by shooting himself with a revolver. He was of an eccentric disposition, and sab before a looking-glass when committing tho deed.
