Count .D'Albertis, who has been on a tour j through the Islands, returned by theCorinna on Saturday. The Hon. Captain Morris, M.L.C., arrived from Wellington by the Takapuna yesterday. Captain T. Trotter, late of the Tyser steamer Indra, is now in command of the same company's steawer Indrani. Captain Todd, the Tyser • Company's superintendent in New Zealand, is a passenger to Napier by the Indraghiri. Mr. James Mills, managing director of the Union Steamship Company, is returning to the colony by the Monowai, which will leave San Francisco on the 20th of August. Mr. F. H. Bakewell, who has been promoted to the mastership at' Grey town, was presented on Saturday ab Wellington, by the upper standard ab Thorndon, with a silver match-box and a silver and oak salad bowl, with spoon and fork to match, Mr. C. T. Richardson, on bahalf of the teaching staff, and committee, also presented Mr. Bakewell with a gold albert guard and greenstone mere pendent, Mr. Fred Nicol, formerly of Masterton and Hastings, who left New Zealand a few months ago to join the West Australian Postal Department, is pushing his way in the new country, and by latest advices has just received word of his transfer from the Perth to the Coolgardie telegraph office. Mr. Nicol with four others, two of whom are also New Zealanders, were chosen on examination from a Btaff of sixty telegraphists in the Perth office to do duty at the busy El Dorado, and at a considerable advance in salary. Mr. Thomas Macky, jun., lately accountant to the firm of Heather, Roberton, and Co., of Customs-Etreeb, was presented with a purse of sovereigns on Saturday ab the warehouse, on the occasion of severing his connection with the firm, to bake up his father's business in Fort-street. Mr.. Arthur Heather (with whom Mr. Macky had been associated for 20 years) made the presentation on behalf of the recipients' employers and fellow employees. In doing so, he spoke very nicely of the good feeling that had always existed between them and' Mr. Macky, and assured him of the genuine wishes for success ho would carry with him oh leaving the warehouse.
