THE CODLIN MOTH AND PROPOSED LEGISLATION.

,• ... ■■■*, TO THE EDITOR. Sib,— see that a measure is likely to be introduced into the House dealing with frail "■-. which is grown id: any orchard where' there: ; ; is codlin moth, apple scab, or American I blight. If this ■ measure 'becomes law,': no''! fruit will he allowed to be removed from an? % orchard that 'his any of tho 'above-named ■;: pests in it. I fail to see whence Auckland it >! going to procuijV her supply of fresh' fruit : under these conditions. The measure is extreme aud absurd.' I do not know an orchard anywhere within 50 miles *of ; our 'city which is quite free, or evon nearly so, from all those pests, and now, of all times, it does appear to be inopportune to talk of passing legislation bearing on orchard pests. We see by our daily papers a specific called Armstrong's ■ Codlin Moth Specific, which the inventor claims to have proved to be a thorough cure for moth, blight, and fungus. Why not allow all orohardists to put this specific to the test instead of introducing a measure which cannot work satisfactorily if it becomes law? The orchardist has had much with which to pub up during the past six or seven years, ■■ and he is in no position to stand all the experimental fads of a Government, or those of au inspector. Some people seem to think that if only we could get legislation we would got rid of codlin moth, but it does not follow that we would, and I for one vory much doubt it. What we want is time to test this new specific, and if that fails then propose legislation, but let us orchardista sec that wo protest against any such wild and foolish measure as tho one which is to be introduced.—l am, etc, A Fiohter of Codlin Moth.
