Lord Selborne, responding to the toast of the colonies, said that Buluwayo, Mafeking, and Capetown had received every soldier asked for, and more would be sent if required. Mr. Chamberlain had enjoined great caution on the colonial leaders till MajorGeneral Carrington, the new commandant, arrived.
