MINE MANAGEMENT.
TO THE KDITOK. Sir,—it may he generally conceded that) the present comparative prosperity of the Auckland province is due to the recent improvement in mining. Seeing that this is so, it behoves people who have large interests at stake to take a deeper interest in the internal management of the various mines. Now, sir, unfortunately I have taken lately a deep interest; in the mining boom, and deem it my duty to speak out in the interests of the large number of investors who indirectly are responsible tor the present prosperity of onr Auckland mining districts. The company that I have been interested in is situated at Coromandcl. I have watched its operations, and what astonishes me is that gold has not been found since what led to the formation of the company. Is it the fault of the management? or' is it the recognised style of working these companies? lu my innocence 1 should have thought that the best way tn find the gold that was declared to be in this ground would be to go straight for it; so the only conclusion I can come to is that the management consider that the longest way round is the shortest way home. I hope that these few lines of mine will cause shareholders of the various mines and this one in particular to take a deeper interest in the workings of the various companies so that when call after call comes they may bo fully satisfied whether or not they are justifiable.—l am, etc., Subscriber,
Tub Chairmanship of thi: Education Board.—We have received from Mr. J. Henry Wright, of Fukekohe, a long letter in regard 10 the Chairmanship of the Education Board, and the action of Air. Udy at the last meeting of the Board in retaining that position. Air. Wright in concluding says "1 may say the question in dispute will go before a high legal authority, and if we are wrong we shall submit manfully; but if it is found we are correct in our contention then I trust school committees will come forward, and by their sympathy support thoso whoso only aim is the advancement ot the educational interests of the children of this province, and who while members of the Board will treat those who may be opposed to them with honourable and manly consideration, and this we certainly expect from others."
