CRICKET. WELLINGTON V. AUCKLAND. The inletproviucial cricket match, Wellington v. Auckland, was begun in the Domain Cricket I. round ou Saturday, February 22. itid continued on h'bruary 24. Auckland put together 233 in their first innings, Mr. George Mills (not out) being credited with the fine score of 106. Wellingtonwerealldismissed for 102, and being more than SO behind the * home team's total, followed on their own innings, and brought the grand total up to '21)4. At 5 p.m. Auckland went ill to make the requisite (X) to win, and just managed to do so with three and a half minutes to spare. The excitement was intense, and every run was watched keenly, and loudly applauded. A run a minute was the order of the day, and the hard hitters were put iu. The winning hit was made by Clayton, and the run would never have been dreamt of in ordinary cricket, but necessity knows no law. In fact, many of the 60 runs were more than risky. .Six wickets were sacrificed in the hurry, and it was just '"touch and go" whether Auckland would win. Appended are the scores Auckland—First innings.
