THE PRODUCE TRADE.

LABELLING MEAT AND CHEESE. Press Association.—Electric Telegraph.—Copyright,

London', March 18. A Bill, introduced by Mr. Mildmay, M.P. for Totnes, enforcing the labelling of foreign meat and cheese, has been read a second time by a majority of 150.

London, March 19.

Mr. C. T. Ritchie, President of the Board of Trade, supported Mr. Mild' may's Bill oil condition that it was

sent back to the Select Committee again. Its provisions, as at present drafted, were unworkable, and the practical difficulties in the way were great.

The Times considers the measure will not prevent fraud, and that the machinery will be expensive.
