ROAD BOARD MEETINGS.

OPAHEKE.

The ordinary meeting of the Opaheke Road Board was held in the Valley school on the 14th inst. Present: Messrs. Brisbane (chairman), Donohue, Mathieson, Shaughnessy, and Wagner. Tho clerk reported having communicated with Messrs. Kelly Bros., surveyors, with a view of surveying the road between R. Sinclair's and W. McDowell's, and had requested Messrs. Kelly Bros, to complete the survey as early as possible. Action endorsed. The chairman reported having received tenders for bridge on Mr. Kiddle's road—from T. Cummins, £10; J. Diniu, £8 10s; T. Kiddle, £7 17s fid— had let the work to Mr. Kiddle, and had also instructed the clerk to order the timber for the bridge, and six planks for the Maketu big bridge. Action endorsed. _ The following tenders were received for carting and spreading metal from Stoney Creek to top of Sutton's hill :-G. McDowell, 3s per yard; J. McCahe '2s lOd; 0. Cummins, 2s; J. Dinin, Is Bd. Dinin's tender was accepted. Resolved, "That a penalty of Is per dajy bo imposed for every day after April 30.' A schedule of "thirds," amounting to £16 19s, was received, and after considerable discussion the various amounts were allocated to be spent to benefit the land from which the " thirds" was derived. Mr. J. Deneney, representing Mr. M. Mark ham, waited upon the Board asking the Board's permission to take a tree on the road near Mr. G. Stewart's. Resolved, "That Mr. Markham get the tree for 10s, to be paid in advance ; the road to be kept clear whilst engaged in removing the tree." Mr. G. Sutton waited upon the Board asking the Board to take some steps to get the road boundary defined. Resolved, " That the clerk see the Chief Surveyor, and endeavour to get the Government to put the survey right." Messrs. Donohuo and Wagner reported having increased the width of formation on Gunnivin's road to 18ft, and allowed 9s extra for the work. The work was done and passed. Action endorsed. Resolved to call tenders for various odd jobs on various parts of the main road, Messrs. Donohue and Wagner to take charge of the work. Mr. Mathieson was authorised to get the bridge on the River Road repaired. As this was the last meeting of the Board before the auditing of the accounts, the clerk was instructed to take the necessary stops to get the rates iu and to get cheques drawn for the amount of cash collected before the 2-lth. Accounts amounting to £18 were ordered to ba paid.— [Own Correspondent.]

PAPAKURA. The monthly meeting of the Papakura Road Board was held at the office of the Hoard, Papakura Valley, on the 14th instant. Present: Messrs. G. I). Smith (chairman), Barkley, G. Embling, R. Kemp, aud the clerk (E. Morgan). A large amount of business was transacted. Tenders were received for the carting of the metal from Aickm'a quarry : Smith mid Harris, Is 9d per yard; J. Bull, Is 9d per yard; P. Aickin, la 9d per yard. After considerable discussion, it was decided to accept the first-named, as they were likely to nave the work completed soonest, and it would not cost so much for spreading. It w„.a decided to put man on to blind the metal that was being put on from Reid'a contract. The chairman reported that the result of their conference with the Manurewa Road Board was thai this Board were to have the overseeing of the maintenance of the Great South Road, and that each Board would contribute about £20 towards the cost of the same. It was decided to call for tenders for the following worksßreaking of the metal which lias just been carted on to the Valley Road, oarting of 80 yards scoria from the Manurewa station on the Valley Road, and the supply of 100 yards of scoria from the Otahuhu quarry on to the mile of the Great South Road between the gateways of Messrs. F. R. McLarnon and D. Burnside. It was also decided to get a few yards of metal to put at the approaches to the bridge between Messrs. Reid and Hanson's. Mr. 4. Colley waited on the Board asking the Board to put in larger pipes in a watercourse running from his place. The request was complied with. A communication from Mr. J. H. Mullins, of Ardmore, was received, asking that something he done to the road from his place into the Valley. It was resolved to meet on the spot next meeting day, April 11, at one o'clock, and see what was required. Lots were drawn to see which members of the Board were to retire, with the result that Messrs. Barkley and Embiing go out of office in May next. Accounts were passed as follows:—D. A.
