On the first charge ho fined the licensee 40s and costs, and on the second charge £20 and costs, and license to be ondorsed for each offence. On application being made that ho would make the fine for the first offence largo enough for an appeal, the magistrate informed counsel that! he could appeal on law points, but he had set his face against appeals on facts. The third charge was withdrawn. Hokitiica, Tuesday. _ The Hop. R. J. Soddon is now on his way rom Nelson to the West Coast. He expects to reach Reefton to-morrow night. He will address his constituents here on Friday night. Messrs. McWhirfcer, Michael, and Stennard, the retiring members of the Education Boayd, have been re-elected. lb has been raining hard all day, and the holiday was completely spoilt. Dunedw, Tuesday. Eaton Jones, miner, was killed by a fall of earth at Bald Hill flat. An eight-roomed houso, the property of the Standard Insurance, occupied by A. Bell, on District Road, Normanby, was destroyed by fire yesterday. The insurances are, furniture £200, and house £-00, both in the Standard. _
