DANGE AT GOVERNMENT HOUSE.

A dance was given by the Countess of Glasgow last evening, at Government Houso, for which 150 invitations had been issued. After the guests had boen announced, the ball commenced at 9.15. The opening dance was a round dance, and after that the Ist Lancers, the first set boing composed as follows His Excellenoy and Hon. Mrs. Devereux, His Excellency the Admiral and Lady Glasgow, Captain Graham and Mrs. Alfred Nathan, Captain

Browne and Mrs. Goring, Hon. Mr. Devereux and Mrs. P. Dignan, Colonel

Goring and Mrs. Rigour, Lieutenanb Hibberb and Mrs. Morrin, Lieutenanb Duff and Lady Augusta Boyle. Dancing was kepb

up with spirit till an early hour this morning. There were a large number of officer* of the fleet present, invitations having been issued to His Excellency the Admiral, the captains of the various warships, and the officers of the fleet, many of whom were prosont. In addition, there were a number of leading citizens. The dance music was supplied by Impey's Band. Refreshments were laid out in one of the apartment* adjoining the ballroom, all the delicacies of the season being provided, and to which the dancers resorted at intervals, Lounges wero provided in the corridors, and Bide rooms for those who preferred social intercourse to the attractions of the mazy dance. The ballroom and the various sitting rooms wore tastefully decorated with flags and groenery, the former especially so, and was artistically adorned during the day by a party of signalmen under Chief Petty-Officer Tucker, of H.M.S. Orlando. Conspicuous on the walls were two beautiful floral device.", on onp side being a Crown with "V.R.,"and on the other a large anchor in compliment to the ofiicors of the fleet. These devices were presented and oxocuted by Mrs. Webster, fruiterer, Queen-street, and werq magnificent specimens of the floral artist's handiwork. The function was a very successful one, and the scene in the ballroom was very brilliant, the naval uniforms contrasting pleasingly with the handsome dresses of the ladies.
