UNIVERSITY COLLEGE COUNCIL.
A meeting of the Auckland University College Council was held yesterday afternoon. There wero present: The Most Rev. the Priraato (Bishop Cowie), who presided, the Rev. W. J. Williams, Messrs. J. A. Tole, Gerald Peacocke, E. Hall, J. 8. Maclaurin, and F. E. Baume.
The Special Meiitino.— .J. A. Tole, referring to tho recent special meeting, said ho did not think that) Professor Tubbs' request to withdraw bis resignation should have been considered at such mooting, but that the matter should have been hold over till a full attendance of members could havo been secured. If fchero woro to be a reversal of tho Board's action ib should bo done by as full a meeting as possible, Mr. Peacocke and Mr. Baume said that nothing hasty had been done, and ample notico had been given. The position of affairs was meroly placed as before, and nothing was reversed. Tho Chairman remarkod it appoared to liira that the resolutions passed at that meeting in no way roversed the Council's action at that previously hold. Modern Languages.—lt was agreed that M. De Montalk should in future be designated Lecturor in Modorn Languages, and that a class be formed by him for instructing students in German.
