ODDFELLOWS PICNIC.

The National Independent Order o! Odd: fellows held their first annual picnic o( Saturday at Pine Island. The p.s. Eaglj made three trips, conveying in all abotj 1000 persons. A long and varied programme of sports had been provided, and spesl arrangements had been made to receive ad welcome delegates from other sooietes, who were moat hospitably treafcd. A largo marquee was erected on the ground, and at 12.30 p.m. all the representatives were invited to partake jf a sumptuous repast, after which Broilers Andrews (Foresters), Carter (American Oder of Oddfellows), Riggs and Roberts (Rplia bites), and others returned thanks, and Brother Dines, chairman of thecommitte, in responding, expressed a hope that ither societies, holding picnics, would tollor the example which the committee had set hem. The sports were under the directionof an efficient committee. Brothers J. Miieod, P.P.G.M., 1.0.0. F., M.U.; C. F. Anirews, D.C.R., A.0.F.; and Brother G. Fell, A.O.F, acted as judges, and in n. case did their decisions give dissatisfaction. Brother E. Gordon, P.C.R., A.O.F. officiated as _ starter and handicapped and succeeded in starting twenty-one «vots in three hours. Brothers H. Phillips am Armstrong acted as call stewards, whilst Bothers J. T. B. Dines and John Moore lookei after the juvenile races. A word of praiseis due to the hon. sec , Brother C. B. Thorne, whose untiring efforts contributed greatly » the thorough success of the picnic. The 'isitora were all landed at the Qneen-streot wharf at the early hour of half past sevei p.m. Appended are the results of the various even :—

Third heat — Andersen 1, Turner 1 Final— 1, Andoram 2, Turner 3.

In this race the bandsmen carried their instruments, and ciused great amusement to the spectators. Friendly Societies' Handicap : R Anderson (Rechahites) 1, F. McNamara (Foresters) 2.
