THE AUSTRALIAN TEAM.
Press Association.—Electric Telegraph,—Copyright. Melbourne, March 13. At a meeting of the executive of the cricket team it was resolved to offer Harry £75 as compensation, and to inform him that this is the utmost limit to whioh the executive is prepared to go. A definite answer is to be given to-day. Harry has consulted two leading barristers, who advised him he had an undoubted claim, and that a case would lie. They, however, advised him to compromise, as it would be unpleasant to travel with a hostile team. The meeting also decided in favour of taking Johns, Kelly, and Hill. Mr. Musgrove, the manager, on being interviewed, stated the changes were the outcome of the opinion held by a majority of the players than the team as at first composed was not strong enough to meet the English teams. Johns's exhibition of previously unknown batting powers had led to his final inclusion, after ib had been decided to exclude him. He would not say that Harry was not good enough to take, but there was a chance of his breaking down, and the team one and all were doubtful as to the soundness of his knee. Tho Cricket Council is taking no risk, and does not find any money, the team taking all risk, and it was natural they should want to see only the best men go. Mr. Musgrove feels sure the Council will see it would have been madness to take a dissatisfied team.
