SOUTH AUCKLAND RACING CLUR [by telegraph—own correspondent,] Hamilton, Saturday. SECOND DAY.
The South Auckland Racing Club's Sun* mcr Meeting was continued to day, and whs even more successful than yesterday. The weather was perfect, and there was an excellent attendance of the public. The fields were large, aud the racing good. The sum of £631 in 10s tickets was invested on the totalisator. There was a large number of the spelling fraternity on the ground on both days,and a number of people complained of having had their pockets picked. To day's race: resulted as follows CIAUDELANDS Handicap.-Merry Maid 1, Captj vity 2, Castashore 3. This was a good race, ami a close finish between tho three horses. Dividend 15s.
Handicap Hurdles.—lka Vuka l, tare i Loch Ness was the only other stirter, but ho til, and Ika Vuka won somewhat easily. Dividend, 17s.
Pony Handicap.-Leona 1, Bob 1, Romp 3. Nine started. Lady Thornton was again left at the post. Leona went off with the l«ad, which she kept all the way, winning comfortably by three length*. Dividend, £1 ss. MCNicol Memorial Stakes.-Tit l, Merry MiiJ 2, Folly 3. Seven started, of which Folly w;v i warm favourite. This was the prettiest race of the day, the horses all keeping close together until tb« entrance to the straight was reached, when Merrj Maid and Tit came to the front, the latter getting home first by a length, the same distance sepiiatmg the second and third horses. Dividend, £3 is. HANDICAP SSTEETI.ECHASE.— 1, Kinuswmvt 2, Brown Bess 3, These were the only starters, and the race was won easily by the favourite. Dividend, IDs.
Trotting Race.—Shoeclip 1, Fuchsia 2. Ten started for this event, which was won by a length only. Dividend, £2 4s. Railway Plate.-!, 1, Retaliation 2, Mav.mrneeu 3. Five started for this race, which was won easily by a length, ha'l a length only separating tli» second and third horse. Dividend, £1 3s.
A special meeting of the H.A.C.B. Society will be held in the Catholic Institute on Wednesday evening next. The first concert of the season of the Auckland Liedertafe) will .be given in the lecture hall of the Y.M.C.A. on the 27th inst. The eighteenth drawing of debentures in the Auckland Public Buildings Loan, will take place on tho 4th of May next, at the office of the Public Trustee. Tenders are invited "by the Auckland Harbour Board for repairs to wharves and jetties. The annual meeting of the Auckland Acclimatisation Society will be held in the Museum Building" ?.i Wednesday, at two p.m. This evening at the Devonport Hall Dr. Bakewjll will read his paper on "The Phyflcal Causes of the Degeneracy of Nations." Questions and discussion will be permitted after the reading of the paper.
