A monster petition is being got up to request tho Government to" retain tho servicos of Captain Cox, as pilot for Nelson. Mr. David Buick, a well known ssttlet, and chairman of tho Manawatu Road Board, and Manawatu Land Drainage Board, notifies, says the Times, that he will be a candidate for the l'almerston feat at the next general election.
Miss Lilian Edger, M.A., F.T.S., is nt present lecturing in the South. Tho chief object of her tour through New Zealand is to consolidate the New Zealand branches of the Tlieosophical Society. Miss Edger expresses herself very well satisfied with the reception accorded liar at Dunedin. Tho two public lecture? held there were a groat success. Mies Edgor states that the Countess of Wachmeister, another ardent TheoBophical advocate, is shortly to arrive in Cbristchnrcfa, and will give public lectures.
