ARMENIAN QUESTION

i ♦ ™ i ATTITUDE OF THE POWERS. : RUMOURS OF COERCIVE MEASURES. ATROCITIES BY ARMENIANS. TWO HUNDRED PRISONERS TORTURED AND MURDERED. Press Association.—Electric Telegraph.— London, February 4. A rumour is current that the United States Government has decided in favour of coercive measures against Turkey in enforcing reform in Armenia ; also that Great Britain favours the project, but Russia is opposed, on the ground that it is likely to delay the intended payment of the indemnity by the Porte to Russia. This action by Russia is looked upon as a confirmation of the reported alliance between Russia and Turkey. The Foreign Consuls report that the Armenians tortured and murdered two hundred prisoners at Zeitoun.
