Crawford, of Sumner, who lerved his apprenticeship in the New Zealand Shipping company's ship Waimate, has passed his examination as second mato of a foreign-going ship. Messrs. W. Halse and J. D. J. Visser, tho Commissioners appointed by the Cape of Good Hope Government to report upon the agriculture of Australasia, arrived from tho South by the Glenelg on Saturday, and were taken for a drive round the city and suburbs yesterday. They leave for the Hot Lake? district morrow. During the absence of Mr. James Mills in England, Mr. E. P. Houghton will'net as managing director of the Union Steamship Company. Mr. W. A. Kennedy, who has been in charge of the Wellington office, is to go North on company business, and will be relieved by Mr. W. H. Blacklock. Mr. McFarlane, who has been temporarily In charge of the Wanganui branch of the Bank of New South Wales, has been appointed manager of the Ashburton branch of that bauk, and Mr. Stedman, who has been manager of it* Timaru branch for some years, has been appointed manager of the Wanganui branch.
