AWFUL MURDERS IN AUSTRIA
A BRAVE WIFE. An unusual instance of female heroism is reported from the village of Trojann, in Carniola. A man entered during the night tho bedroom of a oouple named Nowaok, ami stabbed t|ip husband in his sleep. Tho wife, after a terrible strugglo, succeeded in pushing the robber out of the door and shutting it. It was only then that she perceived that her husband was dead, and, in her terror, who rushed out to arouse tho neighbqurs, Tliq thief, hqwoyer, was still hidden in the doorway, and another struggle took plw®! in the course of which he used his knife freely, But although she was unarmed, he could not overpower her, and as the neighbpnrg were heard approaching, he made good his escape. The woman was found PR t'le threshold bleeding from several wounds and unconscious, A later despatch states that the murderer was arrestpd, but not befpre lie hftd committed a triple murder in the nejcb yi|lago to hie own, whither |io flpd after his first prime, He had to pass by a flourmill, and entering the courtyard early pi blip morning, the man, who is now supposed to bp a lunatic, saw a woman milking the cows, ami her boy, agod twelve, assisting her. He murdered and mutilated both of them, and, entering the mill, attacked tho miller, Martin TrofTel, with hi* knife, Theromust have been a, fearful struggle, as the old man was aft.', v.irds found dead, kneeling before the hearth with his throat cut. The similarity of the wounds gave rise to a suspicion that the samo man committed tho Trojium murder, and this has now beon verified, The criminal is named Paul Ferine, and is thirty years of age.
