The Rev. Mr. Hampton was entertained at a farewell social at Milton, and presented with a very fine electro-plated tea and coffee service on a silver-mounted oak tray, and an easy chair. Mr. F. S. Batchelor, a Danedin young man, wno is studying medicine at Guy's Hospital, London, pissed the first professional examination for the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons on the 13th November last. Mr. F. S. Batchelor is a eon of Dr. Batchslor, of Dnnedin, the president of the forthcoming Medical Congress. Captain Ewan, late of the Union Steam Ship* Company's steamer Wakatipu, was the recipient at Port Chalmers last week, of a massive gold chain and locket, bearing an appropriate address, from the officers who had served under him in the boat. In making the address, Captain Smith paid a grateful tribute to Captain Ewan, who made a very feeling reply. News was received by the mail that ab the November Intermediate Examination of the Royal Institute of British Architects 42 candidates were examined, of whom 22 passed, Mr. H. A. Battley being fifth on She list. This young gontlemen served his articles with Messrs. E. Mahoney and Son, and went to London two and a-half years ago to pursue his studies. It is gratifying to bear of this success of another Auckland boy. Another pf Wellington's very earliest settlers Mrs. 0. M. Buck—died on Sunday week last, at her residence, Wellington Terrace. She was the widow of tho late Captain George Buck, formerly of H.M. 65tli and 14th Regiments, who was killed during the Maori war in 1868. Mrs. Back was the youngest daughter of the late Mr. George Hunter, sen., and was quite a child when she arrived here with her parents in the ship Duke of Roxburgh in February, 1840.
