NORTH ISLAND RAILWAYS.

Wellington, Friday. Tenders for the Makohine Gorge Viaduct, at the southern end of the North Island Main Trunk Railway, will be oalled for after Ministers re-assemble. The work is estimated to cost £35,000. The formation at the north end of the line is progressing steadily. The full number of men who oan be employed on the work with profit are engaged upon it. The Engineer-in Chief, Mr. W. H. Hales, expects the Whangarei-Kamo extension to Whakapara to be completed in about six months. When this work is done tho railway will be available in connection with the export of timber from the Puhiimi.i kauri forest. There are some bridges to construct. The bridges are small, but tho iron matorial for them has to be imported from England. The ironwork ha 3 been ordered.
