At the evening service at Sb. John's Wonleynn Church, Ponsonby, conducted by tho Rev, H. Bull, gome Chri«tmas carols and anthouis were rendered by the choir, The following was the prouraramu Carol, "God Rest You, Merry Christmas;" anthem, " Behold I Bring You Clad Trlin!/scarol, "The First Nowellsolo, "Star of Bethlehem,'' Miss Wheeler; chorus, "O'er the Verdant Plains of Bethlehem," choir; solo, "0 Be Not Afraid," Miss Wheeler; chorus, "To God in the Highest, Glory;" duet, "As a Fair Dream," Mis'es Bull and Wheeior; chorus, "Wo go by Angel Bidden," choir; quartette, "By the Herald Angels Guided," Mrs. Goodison, Miss Joynt, Messrs. Griffiths and Scott; chorus, "'Twm Not a Vision lie Saw," choir ; chorus, " List) to the Chorus we Heard;" quartette, "O Come All Ye Faithful," Mrs. Bettanv. Miss Joynt, Messrs. Foster and Griffiths. The choir were assisted by an orchestra, Air. J. Horsley officiated as organist. At the forenoon service at All Saint's Church, Ponsonby, the Rev. Mr. Edwards in the course cf his sermon Raid that tho manner in which Christmas was observed hero, po far as the social habits of the people wore concerned, would compare favourably with that of older countries. Thero was, however, one blob on the Christmas season: thero was too much horse-racing, and this applied nob only to New Zealand, but to All the colonies of tin Australasian group. There was a good attendance last evening at the City Hall evangolistic sorvico. Mr. John Smyth presided.' Tho first address was by Mr. C. E- Button from John iii., 4, and the second by tho Rev. Mr, McGregor, of Melbourne, from I. Peter iii., 17. The service was bright and hearty.
